SOUTHEASTERN FOOT TRAILS COALITION

Leadership Counsel July 1, 2011

 

The Southeastern Foot Trails Coalition (SEFTC) is holding its annual Leadership Council Meeting on July 1st at the Appalachian Trail Conservancy Conference in Virginia. The Leadership Council meeting will begin at 3 PM on July 1 and run until 7:45 PM with a break for dinner in the middle of the meeting.

Date: July 1, 2011 (Friday)
Time: 3:00 - 7:45 pm
Cost: No fee. However, let the president know in advance if you are just coming to SEFTC meeting and not the ATC meeting and that you need to order a supper ticket. If attending the ATC meeting as well, then be sure to sign up for the supper on July 1 in the cafeteria.

The Leadership Council of the SEFTC will be meeting on July 1 at the Appalachian Trail Conservancy meeting at Emory & Henry College in Emory in the southwestern corner of VA just off I-81.

Even though the meeting will be held on the first day of the ATC meeting, Friday, July 1, we encourage you to attend the entire ATC meeting or as much of it as you can. The link to sign up for the ATC meeting is www.virginia2011.org. Many of the topics being discussed this year at the ATC meeting are on areas the SEFTC wishes to focus upon, including designation of trail towns, development of trail networks, Leave No Child Inside, and Leave No Trace classes

~3:45 pm Opening Speakers on Issues of Interest: "Reconnecting Americans with the Outdoors: USFS and NPS Initiatives with Practical Possibilities for Trail Organizations" by Allison Bullock of the NPS and a speaker from USFS (pending).
 
4:45 pm Discuss Breakout Groups and where they will meet, who will be with each group
 
5:00 pm Break for Dinner
 
6:00 pm Reconvene and Break into 4 or 5 Focus Area Discussions
 Topics Are:
  o Improving Communication within the Coalition and Between Clubs (includes website, mailouts, personal contact, etc)
  o Identifying services that SEFTC and its members could provide to Clubs
  o Creating Regional Trail Networks
  o Trail Towns and Communities
  o Leave No Child Inside
 Break into facilitated groups
(Note: facilitators will be preassigned and given suggestions on how to facilitate their session)

 Sharing results of discussion
 Q & A
 Formulate plans to enact future foci.
 Follow‐up over the weekend
